Mission of the Cleveland American Veterans Association
C.A.V.A assists Veterans as they transition out of homelessness by providing all furnishings (including toiletries), moving services and taking responsibility to ensure the home is move-in ready.
The Secretary of Veteran Affairs has a goal of ending Veterans’ homelessness. In April, 2013, C.A.V.A was selected by the Partnership for Public Service’s Excellence in Government (EIG) Fellows program along with the Louis Stokes VA Medical Center as a partner in a pilot project “Creating a Home for Homeless Veterans”. C.A.V.A has created and implemented the model which is to be rolled out across the nation at its completion. Our volunteers work in conjunction with the HUD/VASH team of social workers. Once the team has identified a veteran the process begins.
C.A.V.A is also a partner in the “Veterans Homeless Coalition” with North Olmsted VFW Post 7649 and Cuyahoga County Land Reutilization Corporation. This coalition offers qualified homeless Veterans an opportunity for homeownership, as well as assists in job placement.
Additionally, the charity provides wartime Veterans in attainment of Aid & Attendance Improved Pension Benefit offered through the Department of Veteran Affairs.
